Job Summary

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to work in a fast-paced team environment, utilizing their expertise in extracorporeal physiology and mechanics to provide high-quality patient care. The successful candidate will have a strong background in cardiovascular perfusion, with excellent judgment, problem recognition, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and optimize circulatory support and homeostasis of patients requiring cardiopulmonary bypass in cardiac and non-cardiac procedures.
  • Assemble, operate, and monitor myocardial preservation during CPB.
  • Access the needs of patients and independently respond to and deliver appropriate therapies.
  • Provide additional therapeutic services, including administering medical gases, anesthetics, drugs, blood products, and crystalloid solutions.
  • Operate and monitor Ventricular assist devices.
  • Ensure the quality of the practice and safety standards are maintained.
  • Participate in professional development, teaching, and education activities within Perfusion Services.
Requirements
  • At minimum, completion of a BSc degree with a diploma in Cardiovascular Perfusion.
  • Certification (or eligibility of certification) with the Canadian Society of Clinical Perfusion (CSCP)/or American Board of Clinical Perfusion (ABCP).
  • Thorough knowledge of the theory and practice procedures, instruments, equipment, and special techniques.
  • Specialized knowledge of extracorporeal physiology and mechanics (both adult and pediatric) required.
  • Knowledge of applicable Hospital and departmental policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, and practices.
  • Excellent judgment, problem recognition, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to organize work and set priorities for self and others.
  • Highly developed expertise and effective communication with all other health team members are essential in making the frequent, critical decisions required during the course of a bypass or other related perfusion procedures.
  • Ability to work both effectively and accurately, adapting under stressful conditions in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in continuing education.
