Position: Nuclear Medicine Technologist - PET Imaging

Organization: PHSA

Location: Various BC Cancer centres

Casual employment opportunities available at multiple BC Cancer locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive clinical PET/CT imaging, which includes selecting suitable imaging protocols, accurately positioning patients, executing image acquisition, and performing data reconstruction. Present the final image data set to the PET physician for assessment.
  • Prepare patients for scanning procedures by thoroughly explaining the process, addressing any questions, and securing informed consent prior to commencement.
  • Execute technical responsibilities, including correlating clinical histories with examinations, recording baseline vital signs, establishing venous access for radiotracer injections, monitoring blood glucose levels before administering radiotracers, and administering the appropriate radiotracer.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout procedures by monitoring vital signs and observing for any signs of distress. Respond to emergencies in line with facility protocols, which may include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary.
  • Operate PET and associated CT equipment in accordance with established operational standards.

Qualifications

  • Certification from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Completion of formal education in PET/CT, such as the CAMRT PET/CT certificate program or equivalent training and experience.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Familiarity with Nuclear Medicine procedures, radiopharmacy, and radiation safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in operating PET/CT cameras and related software applications.
  • Understanding of research methodologies and processes.
  • High-level patient care skills applicable to individuals of all ages.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment and clinical information systems.
