Job Summary

The Government of Alberta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Assurance Manager to provide provincial expertise and specialized advice, consultation, and support for professional discipline matters for all Alberta-certificated teachers and teacher leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and support to a team of Professional Assurance Officers, ensuring complaints of alleged unprofessional conduct and professional incompetence are properly addressed.
  • Analyze allegations in complaints of unprofessional conduct and incompetence for teachers and teacher leaders.
  • Prosecute/present cases of alleged unprofessional conduct and/or incompetence to discipline committees (tribunals).
  • Represent the Commissioner in legal depositions for professional discipline cases.
  • Provide provincial level expertise in responding to inquiries from school authorities and stakeholders regarding professional discipline matters.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of operational and strategic planning for the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission.

  • Ability to provide effective coverage of branch operations in the absence of the Director.
Qualifications

A university graduation in a field related to the position assignment, supplemented by six years related experience. A graduate level degree is considered a strong asset.

The position requires expert knowledge and thorough understanding of:

  • Managing and leading teams in a unionized workplace.
  • Administrative law and regulated professions.
  • Exceptional skill in problem solving and advanced analytical skills.
  • Working within operational policy/procedures to produce clear and credible work.
  • Applying complex legislation and legal advice to prepare reasoned recommendations.
  • Caseload, task, and time management; managing high volumes of time-sensitive work.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time permanent position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

The working location is in Edmonton.
