POSITION SUMMARY:

The Material Sourcing Specialist is responsible for managing the varietal selection initiatives within the organization, ensuring effective communication with procurement, processing, sales, and external stakeholders. This role plays a crucial part in supporting barley procurement and malt sales through the leadership of sustainable farming practices and low carbon initiatives.

INTERNAL COLLABORATIONS: The role requires close interaction with the Procurement, Processing, and Commercial Sales teams, as well as collaboration with other relevant staff members.

EXTERNAL COLLABORATIONS: Engage with universities, research institutes, industry associations, breeding companies, consultants, and customers in the brewing and distilling sectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

VARIETAL SELECTION MANAGEMENT

Supervise and direct the varietal selection and monitoring initiatives. Ensure alignment between the Commercial Sales Force, Processing, and Procurement strategies regarding varietal options and their characteristics. Analyze and predict key variety market shares for open market origination and sales forecasting. Manage trial data within the designated database, overseeing implementation and data extraction. Set strategic direction for barley breeding lines, overseeing their approval and management. Evaluate and enhance local trial networks and their operations. Monitor and synthesize external trial networks, communicating findings internally. Maintain strong relationships with business unit stakeholders and group counterparts. Serve as the Functional Variety Expert for the sales and origination teams during customer interactions. Support local teams in supply chain competitive intelligence regarding barley and other crops.

PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE SOURCING PRACTICES

Lead the implementation and certification of sustainable agriculture standards for raw materials. Forecast and position the organization for new agricultural practices and market opportunities. Guide the organization in global reporting, providing essential data on sustainably sourced volumes. Seek external funding for internal sustainability projects.

DESIGN AND SUPPORT LOW CARBON FARMING INITIATIVES

Lead the development and management of carbon reduction strategies for raw material production. Educate suppliers and farmers on carbon issues, methodologies, and tools. Identify and implement strategies to enhance farm participation in sustainability initiatives. Coordinate data collection related to carbon footprints. Develop expertise in agriculture and biodiversity within the organization. Assess potential research and analysis on emerging topics. Explore and test innovative solutions to maintain industry leadership. Build strategic alliances and partnerships within the industry. Coordinate impact measurement and data collection with relevant KPIs. Pursue external funding for sustainability projects.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Represent the organization at industry events and committees as needed. Foster strong relationships with both internal and external service providers. Assist local management in timely data provision for financial reporting. Act as the Functional Expert for sustainability and variety topics during customer interactions. Manage program budgets effectively. Support crop production forecasting initiatives.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role demands energy, enthusiasm, and the ability to influence and find common ground. Strong teamwork skills and the ability to foster an environment of collaboration among supply chain participants. Ensure compliance with all relevant organizational policies and procedures. Assist with various administrative tasks as required. Participate in ad-hoc projects as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science, Food Science, Business, or a related field. Familiarity with quality control systems in the grain industry. Experience in field operations and trial management. Strong understanding of raw material impacts on malting, brewing, and distilling processes. Ability to work independently with initiative and foresight. High proficiency in data entry and manipulation while maintaining accuracy. Proficient in office software, particularly Excel. Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Willingness to travel internationally as required.
