POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Manager of Retail Sales, this position is dedicated to capturing joyful moments and memories for our guests by taking and selling commemorative photographs, along with other personalized merchandise, while delivering exceptional customer service as a representative of the Vancouver Aquarium. The primary objective of the Photography Sales Specialist is to drive sales through engaging interactions with visitors at the entrance, at the photography stations, and throughout the facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Exemplifying the Vancouver Aquarium's values and enhancing visitor experiences through outstanding service by:

Enthusiastically greeting and engaging with guests to capture their commemorative photographs upon arrival and during their visit; Promoting the sale of souvenir photographs by taking, editing, processing, and selling high-quality digital images and personalized items while providing excellent customer service; Accurately processing sales transactions using cash, debit, and credit cards at point-of-sale systems; Regularly organizing workstations, restocking supplies, conducting inventory checks, and ensuring that photography and computer equipment are maintained in optimal condition; Upholding the Aquarium's high standards at all times while in uniform; Effectively communicating information about the facility, events, and exhibits, including responding to visitor inquiries about local attractions; Supporting various Visitor Experience initiatives, such as conducting visitor surveys, selling memberships, and assisting at the Guest Services desk; Participating in cross-training programs to work in Admissions and the Gift Shop;

Demonstrating a commitment to improving the Vancouver Aquarium and its operations by:

Promptly assisting in emergency protocols; Adhering to organizational safety standards; Continuously enhancing our environmental impact and operational sustainability through support of environmental management protocols; Actively embodying the Aquarium's values and expectations for professional conduct; Performing additional duties of a similar nature or level as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

A minimum of 2 years of experience in high-volume retail sales, including cash handling and point-of-sale systems, along with basic computer skills; Basic knowledge of camera operation and photo editing is advantageous; 2 years of experience in a customer service role or equivalent.

Skills

A strong passion for delivering exceptional guest and retail service; Knowledgeable, friendly, and assertive with an outgoing demeanor; Excellent attention to detail and accuracy; Strong numerical aptitude; Ability to work effectively in a team within a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; Capable of making quick decisions and solving problems effectively; Diplomatic and composed when interacting with the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The role requires the ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the facility; Exposure to outdoor weather conditions is expected; Adherence to uniform and appearance guidelines is mandatory; The ability to safely lift and carry objects weighing up to 15 lbs is required; Potential exposure to challenging customer interactions requiring problem-solving skills; Frequent exposure to noise in a busy environment; Continuous interaction with customers and colleagues; Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, including availability on weekends and holidays (occasional overtime during peak seasons). Please note that successful candidates must be available to work on weekends and statutory holidays.

HOURLY WAGE: $19 per hour
