Position Overview:
CIS Ontario is looking for a dedicated Library Technician to enhance our Junior School Library operations. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional organizational abilities and a talent for fostering positive relationships with students, contributing to a supportive and inclusive library atmosphere.
Work Schedule:
This part-time role aligns with the academic calendar, requiring attendance from Tuesday to Thursday. The working hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., providing a structured environment focused on student engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage circulation processes, including the preparation and distribution of overdue notices and student charges, as well as shelving resources.
- Assist faculty, staff, and students with inquiries related to library materials and technology, ensuring effective troubleshooting and support.
- Collaborate with the teacher-librarian in cataloguing and processing new library resources.
- Promote both print and digital materials to enhance student learning.
- Conduct inventory checks and perform shelf reading to maintain organization.
- Engage in the review and acquisition of materials in consultation with the teacher-librarian.
- Supervise students during study periods to foster a productive learning environment.
- Maintain regular communication with booksellers and community stakeholders.
Candidate Qualifications:
The successful applicant will hold a Library Technician Diploma or equivalent, along with 1-2 years of relevant experience, ideally within an educational context. Combinations of training and experience will also be considered.
We seek a tech-savvy, collaborative, and highly organized individual who enjoys working with young learners. The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic, mission-driven environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of standard library practices, reference skills, and cataloguing methods, particularly the Dewey Decimal system.
Proficiency in integrated library systems and familiarity with online databases are essential, along with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate must exhibit discretion, confidentiality, and professionalism in all interactions. A positive attitude and strong technology skills, including proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite, are also key attributes.
