Position Overview:

The Head of Strategic Procurement will spearhead the formulation and execution of procurement strategies, optimize cost structures, enhance customer satisfaction, manage vendor performance, and oversee contract execution across all categories within our Preferred Supplier Initiative. This role demands strong commercial acumen and the capacity to acquire technical knowledge to effectively manage complex categories, while also mentoring and guiding a team of procurement and category managers. Familiarity with the construction sector and financial principles is advantageous, as the effectiveness of this role is assessed based on EBITDA efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Transform the cost structure across various commodity cost vectors.
  • Develop category strategy roadmaps aligned with Aecon's competitive vision.
  • Assign sourcing projects to qualified managers and coordinators to support business objectives and project requirements.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of category strategy initiatives that yield results consistent with the overall strategy.
  • Analyze current and emerging industry trends within specific categories.
  • Develop and maintain supplier contracts, ensuring performance standards are met.
  • Manage relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve existing category strategy programs.
  • Support operational excellence related to assigned categories.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience leading Strategic Procurement and/or Category Management functions.
  • Experience in the construction industry is a significant asset.
  • Proficiency in all phases of the Strategic Procurement cycle and/or Category Management.
  • Strong project management and influencing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey strategy in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and formulate well-supported conclusions.
  • Highly organized and disciplined, capable of managing competing organizational demands.
  • Integrative thinker and negotiator, adaptable to various situational contexts.
  • Willingness to learn technical aspects of categories to effectively manage them and guide team members.
  • Passion for excellence, with a strong goal achievement orientation.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
