Position Overview

The Neurophysiology Technologist plays a crucial role within the Clinical Neurophysiology Department, contributing to patient care through advanced diagnostic procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Employing expertise in anatomy and physiology to conduct Electroencephalogram, Magnetoencephalography, and Electromyography (EEG, MEG & EMG) along with other specialized electrodiagnostic assessments for both inpatients and outpatients, adhering to established protocols.
  • Managing, troubleshooting, and ensuring optimal performance of diagnostic equipment.
  • Generating comprehensive electronic and written documentation to accurately reflect all procedures and outcomes.
  • Engaging in educational initiatives, including teaching and training activities.
  • Assisting with various patient care tasks to enhance the quality of service provided.
  • Understanding and complying with hospital and departmental regulations and procedures.
  • Upholding the hospital's mission and values while ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities as required across different functions.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Biology, Kinesiology, or Neuroscience.
  • Three to five years of practical experience in a related role.
  • Preferred registration with the Canadian Board of Registered EEG Technologist (CBRET) or American Electrodiagnostic Technologist (ASET).
  • Membership with the Canadian Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologist (CAET) is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in the 10/20 measurement system and conducting impedance checks.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards and the ability to analyze EEG recordings.
  • Capability to recognize seizure activity visually and manage multiple patients simultaneously.
  • Strong decision-making skills to determine when to involve nursing or medical staff.
  • Experience with EMG and Nerve Conduction studies is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform duties professionally and courteously while delivering high-quality work within set deadlines.
  • Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and institutional policies.
