Fitness Instructor for Seniors

Job Summary

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to seniors under the direction of the Kinesiologist/Program Supervisor associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead fitness classes for seniors, promoting physical activity and health.
  • Work with clients to achieve their fitness goals, as outlined in their assessments.
  • Participate in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery processes.
  • Attend educational in-services to enhance professional development.
  • Provide fall prevention education as directed by the Coordinator and regulated professionals.
  • Report any situations deemed inappropriate to the PT/Coordinator.
  • Ensure timely reporting of incidents in accordance with legislation and VON policies and procedures.
  • Report any equipment defects that may pose a risk to self or others.
  • Comply with OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.
External and Internal Relationships
  • Frequent interaction with the Coordinator, Physiotherapist, and clients.
Education, Designations, and Experience
  • High school graduate.
  • CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
  • Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
  • Experience working in an assisted living environment is an asset.
  • Bilingual in French/English is an asset.

Other
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Current criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector screen, is required.
  • The use of Personal Protective Equipment will be required.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities

Attention to detail; lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; hand movements.
