Fitness Instructor for Seniors

The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to seniors under the direction of the Kinesiologist/Program Supervisor associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.
Key Responsibilities- Lead fitness classes for seniors, promoting physical activity and health.
- Work with clients to achieve their fitness goals, as outlined in their assessments.
- Participate in ongoing review and evaluation of service delivery processes.
- Attend educational in-services to enhance professional development.
- Provide fall prevention education as directed by the Coordinator and regulated professionals.
- Report any situations deemed inappropriate to the PT/Coordinator.
- Ensure timely reporting of incidents in accordance with legislation and VON policies and procedures.
- Report any equipment defects that may pose a risk to self or others.
- Comply with OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.
- Frequent interaction with the Coordinator, Physiotherapist, and clients.
- High school graduate.
- CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions.
- Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity.
- Experience working in an assisted living environment is an asset.
- Bilingual in French/English is an asset.
- Respect for privacy and confidentiality.
- Dependability and trustworthiness.
- Good communication and active listening skills.
- Capacity to remain calm in unexpected situations.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess a current driver's license and proof of vehicle insurance.
- Current criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector screen, is required.
- The use of Personal Protective Equipment will be required.
Attention to detail; lift and carry using appropriate lifting techniques; bend, push, pull, grip, reach, kneel, crouch using good body mechanics; walk, sit, stand, climb stairs; hand movements.
