Position Overview
The Faculty of Arts and Science is seeking a qualified Technical Specialist III for a full-time term position to support the educational initiatives within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will possess a robust and varied background in Chemistry, encompassing experience across multiple subdisciplines such as organic, inorganic, physical, and analytical chemistry. Additionally, expertise in handling chemical reagents and laboratory equipment is essential.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting tests on laboratory exercises and equipment prior to student engagement.
- Setting up and dismantling materials for various undergraduate laboratory courses.
- Overseeing waste disposal and safety protocols in multiple laboratory settings.
- Preparing reagents, solutions, and samples for undergraduate laboratory use.
- Maintaining a safe and organized working environment in the undergraduate laboratories.
- Regularly communicating with laboratory coordinators regarding course needs and any arising issues.
- Supervising graduate student assistants during laboratory sessions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities, along with the capacity to adapt to unexpected changes in protocols and manage competing demands effectively. A B.Sc. degree and significant technical experience are prerequisites for this role.
Preference will be given to individuals familiar with the programs and systems of the University of Lethbridge and those with experience in a post-secondary educational environment.
Compensation
The starting salary for this position is $4, $5,246.00 monthly, with a full salary range of $4, $5,799.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 10).
