The Climate Strategy Governance Advisor plays a pivotal role in engaging with essential external stakeholders and internal experts to ensure readiness for extensive electrification and optimal performance of the Climate Advisory Services initiative. This initiative aims to assist clients in transitioning their residences and enterprises towards net-zero emissions. The incumbent is expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of climate action strategies at local, national, and global levels, utilizing this knowledge to inform the continuous enhancement and evolution of Toronto Hydro's Climate Action Plan and related projects. Additionally, the role involves streamlining internal processes to expedite customer electrification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Monitor the overall effectiveness of the Climate Action Plan and associated corporate decisions, identifying risks and opportunities that may impact Toronto Hydro's ability to meet climate action targets.
  2. Establish clear metrics, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and objectives to assess progress on climate action initiatives, providing regular updates to senior management to demonstrate the organization's commitment to these goals.
  3. Contribute significantly to the preparation of external reports, including the annual Climate Action Plan Status Report.
  4. Collaborate with subject matter experts to distill complex technical information into accessible content for public audiences.
  5. Lead the identification and implementation of internal process enhancements aimed at improving service delivery for customers seeking electrification solutions.
  6. Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in electrification, supporting the integration of relevant advancements into customer service strategies.
  7. Work with Media & Public Relations, Customer Care, Key Accounts, and Government Relations to develop cohesive messaging on climate-related technologies.
  8. Manage relationships with the City of Toronto Environment & Climate Division, particularly concerning the Climate Action Plan and related climate initiatives.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. University degree in business, environmental studies, engineering, or public policy (preferred).
  2. Advanced degree in business, environmental studies, engineering, law, or public policy (preferred).
  3. A minimum of seven years of experience in climate initiatives or energy operations.
  4. Proven experience in managing complex or sensitive matters with clients or senior leaders.
  5. Experience in a utility, consultancy, or governmental organization is advantageous.
  6. In-depth knowledge of the internal workings of electrical utilities and their core processes.
  7. Strong understanding of climate action, energy, and regulatory frameworks.
  8. Results-driven approach with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, including mediating disagreements.
  9. Comprehensive understanding of governmental processes as they relate to Toronto Hydro.
  10. Proven track record in building effective relationships and partnerships across organizations.
  11. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with strong stakeholder management capabilities.
  12. Demonstrated customer-centric focus with the ability to foster effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  13. Strong organizational skills with the capacity to monitor and report results in a dynamic environment.
  14. Excellent research and analytical capabilities.

Toronto Hydro offers a Hybrid Work Arrangement, allowing for remote work up to three days per week based on business needs. Employees are expected to be present onsite for activities deemed more effective in person. Candidates should reside in Ontario and be within a reasonable commuting distance.
