Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriting Manager to join our team at the Business Development Bank of Canada. As an Underwriting Manager, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations and due diligence activities for medium to high complexity loan proposals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Present high-quality proposals to the Credit Risk Management Team, including all appropriate analyses and documentation.
  • Develop appropriate terms, pricing, conditions, and covenants while ensuring thorough credit analysis, due diligence, and sound account management practices.
  • Review loan packages and negotiate with internal partners to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the resolution of compliance or material changes that arise during deal negotiation and structuring.
  • Develop win-win solutions for clients and the Bank through innovative thinking and resourcefulness.
  • Maintain relationships with business centre personnel, colleagues, and internal partners to foster teamwork and the pursuit of common objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date on changes to policies, procedures, and trends in credit and regulatory issues that may impact the Bank.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in commerce, business administration, or accounting.
  • Accounting designation and banking experience are a definite asset.
  • Two to five years or more of relevant experience.
  • Experience in loan writing and ability to analyze and structure medium to complex financial deals.
  • Sound credit judgment coupled with a strong understanding of credit policies and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of Bank products, services, policies, and procedures, and ability to provide high-quality customer service to internal and external clients.
  • Ability to develop win-win solutions for clients and the Bank through innovative thinking.
  • Strong communication skills to interact and negotiate with internal partners and clients.
  • Good time management and priority setting skills to meet critical deadlines.
  • Strong business acumen.
  • Team player with a thorough understanding of the dynamics of the small business environment.
  • French is required, bilingualism (French/English) is an asset.
