Reporting Structure: Manager, 8th floor
Key Responsibilities:
The Student Nurse Extern serves as an unregulated healthcare professional, delivering essential personal support to patients. Responsibilities include:
- Providing basic care, including assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, toileting, and feeding for up to 10 patients.
- Collaborating under the guidance of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, adhering to departmental protocols.
- Documenting activities of daily living (ADLs) and communicating relevant information regarding patient care.
- Reporting any clinical concerns to the supervising nurse promptly.
Qualifications:
- Enrollment in years 2-4 of a nursing program is required.
- Current CPR certification is mandatory.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Familiarity with technology and its application in healthcare settings.
- Capability to provide basic assistive care with supervision and mentorship from nursing staff.
- Compliance with mandatory training on Privacy & Confidentiality, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, and hand hygiene.
- Consistent attendance and reliability in the workplace.
Work Environment:
Location: Humber River Health – Wilson Site
Shift Patterns: Rotating shifts, including 8 or 12-hour schedules across days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
