Job Overview

Bantrel Co. is in search of a skilled Traffic Operations Specialist to become a vital part of our Infrastructure division. This role will primarily focus on overseeing contractor activities and ensuring the successful completion of complex permanent and temporary access routes, earthworks, and structural projects. The Traffic Operations Specialist will be tasked with supervising all contractor operations on-site, ensuring adherence to project safety, quality, and scheduling standards while fostering positive relationships with stakeholders and the public.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts engineering assignments related to construction, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of construction engineering methodologies.
  • Monitors contractor activities to guarantee compliance with project specifications.
  • Prioritizes safety and the establishment of a secure work environment in all project undertakings.
  • Reviews contractor documentation, including risk assessments and method statements, and participates in necessary inspections on behalf of the company.
  • Oversees contractor quality assurance processes, including addressing non-conformance issues.
  • Collaborates with construction superintendents and contractors to strategize construction methods and resolve engineering challenges.
  • Interprets design engineering plans and may create construction drawings for use by site personnel.
  • Prepares field sketches for modifications and maintains accurate 'as-built' documentation.
  • Evaluates design drawings and vendor documentation to identify potential conflicts.
  • Tracks contractor quantities using relevant database systems as required.
  • Reviews change orders and extra work requests.
  • Implements project control measures on-site.
  • Assists in developing cost estimates and reviews project materials for completeness.
  • Maintains daily logs of site activities.
  • Assists in verifying contractor payment applications.
  • Reviews updated contractor schedules as needed.
  • Provides insights for constructability and lessons learned.
  • May contribute to performance evaluations of subordinate personnel.
  • Ensures all necessary permits and licenses are secured before commencing work on-site.
  • Reviews and approves contractor submissions, technical inquiries, and other essential documents.
  • Ensures compliance of all materials and equipment with international standards and specifications.
  • Facilitates a systematic and thorough project closure process.
  • Maintains effective collaboration with other departments and coordinates all contractual activities on-site.
  • Coordinates interactions with other contractors during site meetings and through on-site presence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in logistics and transportation management within the construction sector.
  • Familiarity with traffic analysis software such as Synchro.
  • Experience with statistical software packages is advantageous.
  • Proficient in data analysis and programming languages.
  • Knowledge of GIS is a plus.
  • Understanding of transportation planning principles.
  • Strong grasp of the Ontario transportation landscape.
  • Familiarity with construction materials and supply chain dynamics.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction logistics regulations.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication capabilities.
  • Proficient in transportation management systems and project management software.
  • Awareness of safety procedures related to construction activities.
  • Knowledge of Ontario and Canadian road construction standards.
  • Experience managing Temporary Traffic Control Zones adjacent to active roadways.
  • Understanding of relevant standards and traffic control device manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment among all project stakeholders.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Awareness of environmental compliance regulations.
  • Familiarity with industry quality standards.
