Position Overview

The Construction Support Section Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety standards and engineering specifications. This permanent, full-time position offers competitive remuneration and an exceptional benefits package.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a 'Safety First' approach, ensuring adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Oversee project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring all engineering requirements are met.
  • Exhibit strong leadership capabilities to foster excellence among teams, peers, and contractors.
  • Possess knowledge of collective agreements related to building trades.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure timely completion of tasks and deliverables.

Project Planning and Coordination

Responsible for managing construction tasks and deliverables, including:

  • Ensuring safety protocols are followed for all employees and the public.
  • Defining staffing needs for construction activities.
  • Coordinating and managing construction contracts effectively.
  • Facilitating communication among project teams and stakeholders.
  • Evaluating construction methods and performing value assessments.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Planning resource allocation and equipment coordination.
  • Reviewing and approving complex drawings and documents.
  • Developing and managing construction performance baselines.
  • Ensuring all necessary permits and licenses are obtained.

Monitoring and Integration of Construction Services

  • Promote a culture of safety by ensuring compliance with all safety requirements.
  • Lead the execution of construction tasks in alignment with engineering designs.
  • Build strong relationships across various project functions and stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and risk mitigation.
  • Participate in design reviews and coordinate with contractors and vendors.

Leadership and Development

  • Manage vendor relationships to ensure safety and quality standards are met.
  • Identify and recruit qualified personnel for project needs.
  • Provide constructive feedback and support professional development for team members.
  • Encourage a work environment that values teamwork, integrity, and respect.
  • Ensure effective oversight of supplemental workers to maintain performance standards.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 6 years of construction experience, with at least 3 years in nuclear power.
  • Experience in managing major capital construction projects.
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety and environmental legislation.
  • Certification in Project Management is considered an asset.
