Position Overview: Reporting to the Associate Director of Experiential Learning, the Team Coaching Manager is responsible for leading and supervising a team of Coaches while also actively engaging as a frontline Coach. In this leadership role, the Manager oversees the planning, workload distribution, and performance evaluation of the Coaching team, providing ongoing coaching and constructive feedback while addressing higher-level concerns as necessary.
Key Responsibilities: The Manager plays a crucial role in assisting students in acquiring both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for effective team development. This includes facilitating the processes of giving and receiving feedback, managing conflicts, and demonstrating leadership within academic team settings.
The Manager collaborates with academic Program Heads to assess evolving service requirements, which directly influence the Coaches' responsibilities and workload management as part of the broader Experiential Learning strategy. Additionally, the Manager ensures the effective implementation of the core curriculum utilized in Team Coaching and works closely with the Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies (CTET) to advance institutional team-based learning initiatives.
Collaboration and Support: Working in partnership with the Experiential Learning management team and in conjunction with Student Services, the Manager contributes to departmental efforts aimed at enhancing student retention and success. The Manager is also an integral member of the university's Collaborative Assessment, Referral, and Education (CARE) Team, facilitating early intervention strategies for students who may be vulnerable or at risk.
Qualifications:
- A master's degree in a relevant field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of an undergraduate degree and a minimum of five years of pertinent team coaching experience.
- Certification in coaching training and/or expertise in team-based skill development is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of team and individual coaching theories, conflict resolution, and organizational development practices.
- Experience in instructional facilitation within team processes, collaborative methodologies, and experiential learning environments.
- Proficient problem-solving, conflict management, and feedback delivery skills, demonstrating diplomacy and tact.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, particularly in sensitive situations requiring intervention.
- Robust administrative and organizational capabilities, including staff supervision, budget management, and process implementation.
- Capacity to foster and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Willingness to work during statutory holidays, weekends, and evenings as necessary for residencies and urgent team matters.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Administrative and leadership experience within a post-secondary educational environment.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in both online and in-person settings.
- Familiarity with digital platforms such as Moodle and Zoom.
- Training and experience in intercultural competence and cultural diversity.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the university's philosophy, programs, and strategic objectives.
