Job Summary

Thompson Rivers University is seeking a tenure-track Law and Indigenous Services Librarian to join our team. This position will be responsible for building relationships and services to support Thompson Rivers University's Indigenous Students and Faculty and to support library services to the Faculty of Law.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with librarian colleagues to deliver in-depth, high-quality service to satisfy the research and learning needs of students and faculty.
  • Work collegially with the other Law Librarian and Library Technicians to support research needs to Law students and faculty, including in-person research consultations.
  • Advises on library-wide decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation initiatives.
  • Works with the Librarians Department to build relationships with Indigenous students, faculty, and staff to develop and deliver instruction initiatives, programming, and other services as needed.
  • Work with campus partners to determine how to contribute to Indigenous knowledge, Indigenous research, and Indigenous student success on campus, developing experience and expertise in Indigenous knowledge, information literacy, data, copyright, etc.
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of print, electronic, and media resources to support the Law Library collection.
  • Prepares and maintains research guides to support learning needs.
  • Delivers and develops information literacy programming.
  • Participates in library governance through the development of library guidelines, planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Continues professional growth and development to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Participates in service activities at department, library, university, and professional level as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Library Science/Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in an English language workplace.
  • Demonstrated record of building trust and relationships with Indigenous students or community members.
  • Ability to deliver instruction sessions and workshops and to create educational materials in a variety of formats.
  • Demonstrated commitment to decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable working, teaching, and learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sustained connection to an Indigenous community or context.
  • Prior experience conducting legal research, working with legal citation, or delivering library services to law students.
  • Basic knowledge with Secwepemctsín or other Indigenous language.
Benefits and Salary
  • Excellent benefits, including 40 days of vacation time and 20 days of professional development time.
  • Starting salary range $73,666-114,124, depending on experience.
