About the Role: The Transforming Climate Action (TCA) research and training initiative, overseen by the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI), collaborates with over 170 scholars from four partner institutions, integrating various fields such as ocean studies, atmospheric sciences, Indigenous knowledge, engineering, data analytics, marine legislation, immigration policies, and social equity. The TCA program aims to achieve three primary goals: (1) Decreasing uncertainty, (2) Addressing climate change, and (3) Promoting equitable adaptation. The MacEachen Institute will act as the Policy Transformation Accelerator for this initiative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with research teams to pinpoint strategic policy priorities that align with the TCA program's mission, in partnership with the CEO/Scientific Director, the Scientific Directorate, Scholarly Director, and Chief Innovation Officer.
  • Engage with external organizations, including funding bodies, governmental entities, community groups, industry stakeholders, other public policy organizations, media, and the public, while working closely with OFI communications and Government Relations personnel.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of Policy Transformation Accelerator activities, including policy discussions, roundtables, workshops, and public forums.
  • Convert scientific findings into clear, accessible, and impactful briefing documents for mid-to-upper level civil servants, key stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Oversee the Project Coordinator, Oceans, ensuring effective support for the TCA project.
  • Promote and facilitate interdisciplinary research opportunities related to the TCA project's objectives and assist in the preparation of research grant proposals.

Work Environment: The successful candidate will have the option for hybrid work arrangements, balancing on-campus and remote work based on operational needs and institutional guidelines. Occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary to fulfill operational demands.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant discipline, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of proven experience in public policy, public administration, law, government relations, or public affairs.
  • A strong background as a distinguished oceans/marine/coastal researcher with a solid grasp of public policy.
  • Proven experience in media and public relations.
  • Ability to manage long-term research projects, budgets, and personnel.
  • Exceptional communication skills, particularly in conveying scientific concepts to a broader audience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of government relations, public policy processes, and stakeholder engagement.

Compensation: $65,000 to $70,000 annually.
