Job Overview

The Communications Technician will play a critical role in maintaining and troubleshooting a variety of communication systems at the Ekati Mine site. Reporting to the Superintendent - IT Communication & Technology, the successful candidate will work a two (2) weeks on / two (2) weeks off rotation with 12 hour per day shifts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Security Platform Systems
    • Install, program, and troubleshoot Genetec Camera systems, including access card control.
    • Install, troubleshoot, and repair IP AXIS and PELCO Analogue cameras.
  • Communication Systems
    • Install, program, and troubleshoot Motorola digital radio repeaters, mobile, and handheld radios, including Motorola Paging systems.
    • Install and maintain communication towers, power plants, and solar array systems used for day-to-day communications operations and emergency response throughout the mine site.
  • Telephone System
    • Program, install, and troubleshoot Mitel 3300 IP phone systems.
    • Program, install, and troubleshoot Mitel SX2000 for digital and analogue phones.
  • Wenco Vehicle Tracking Systems
    • Install and maintain Wenco vehicle tracking systems, including high-precision drills and low-precision haul trucks for all mine production fleet equipment.
  • Network Maintenance
    • Provide support and maintenance to over 150 Cisco and Fortinet network switches, access points, and controllers across the mine site.
  • Wireless, Satellite, and Microwave Communications
    • Familiarity with 5 years of previous work experience in an industrial setting.
  • Fiber and Copper Wire Infrastructure
    • Install, troubleshoot, splice, and fuse fiber and copper wire infrastructure.
  • Vendor Support
    • Maintain contact with vendors for support and problem resolution.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Electronic Engineering Technology or Communications, a relevant Journeyperson Certificate, or equivalent.
  • A background in maintenance and support of a variety of communications systems in an industrial setting is considered an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and other communications protocols.
  • 3-5 years of experience in communication systems.
  • Familiarity with Wenco installation and support, Motorola radio and paging systems.
  • Experience developing a project plan, implementing, monitoring, and closing a project.
  • Network certification (CCNA) will be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting Wenco DBHome, Fleet Control, Event Monitor, Bench Manager, and Drill Navigator or equivalent applications.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Project, and SAP.
  • Experience supporting Motorola Digital Radios or equivalent hardware.
  • Experience supporting Cisco or Fortinet network hardware: switches, access points, and SD-Wan devices.
  • Experience supporting alternate power generation sources for WAN connectivity.
  • Experience supporting GPS systems.
  • Experience with Genetec Cameras and access control.
  • Ability to work in extreme winter conditions.
