TERMINAL MANAGER
Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and effective leader to manage the daily operations and administration of our terminals. This role requires a results-oriented individual who prioritizes safety and quality service. You will foster teamwork among diverse staff groups and maintain positive interactions while providing guidance, mentorship, and motivation to support individual performance goals.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Regional Manager of Terminal Operations, you will add value through oversight in the following areas:
Daily Operations Management:
- Implementing corporate safety protocols and risk management initiatives.
- Ensuring adherence to safe practices in terminal operations and maintaining a secure working environment for all personnel, including verifying proper training for all staff.
- Collaborating with Supervisors to ensure compliance with relevant policies and security regulations.
- Conducting checks on vehicles for hazardous materials and compliance with size and weight regulations, advising vessels, and completing necessary documentation.
- Reviewing financial and performance reports, planning and monitoring labor and non-labor expenses, approving overtime, and preparing reports including monthly and quarterly financial summaries.
- Coordinating revenue processes to ensure security and proper deposit of funds.
- Maintaining terminal facilities, grounds, and equipment to high standards of cleanliness and functionality.
- Conducting regular inspections of the terminal to identify unusual activities, security issues, or unsafe conditions, and addressing them as necessary.
- Participating in safety committee meetings as a management representative.
- Coordinating terminal responses during emergencies.
- Managing absenteeism, performance issues, and workplace safety incidents.
- Upholding high environmental standards.
Customer Service Management:
- Being knowledgeable about the company's Customer Service Enhancement program.
- Ensuring staff foster positive customer relations to enhance loyalty.
- Enforcing the employee dress code and maintaining cleanliness standards in terminal facilities.
- Addressing customer concerns promptly and implementing suggestions for service improvement.
Human Resources and Employee Relations:
- Assisting in the recruitment of terminal staff in accordance with company policies.
- Establishing clear performance expectations for team members, regularly assessing and documenting their performance.
- Applying collective agreement provisions and managing disciplinary matters through fact-finding and coaching sessions.
- Promoting effective teamwork through timely communication on employee-related matters.
- Collaborating with scheduling teams to meet workforce needs.
Terminal Administration Oversight:
- Overseeing audits and issuing directives to rectify substandard conditions or practices.
- Authorizing maintenance and repair work orders for terminal assets.
- Facilitating relationships with contractors providing services to the terminals.
Qualifications
A Post-Secondary diploma in business administration or a related field, or a suitable combination of education and experience is required. You should have a minimum of three years' experience managing a passenger transportation terminal, preferably in marine transport, along with demonstrated experience in managing large operating and capital budgets. Experience in implementing strategic initiatives and leading both unionized and non-unionized teams is also essential.
