Cultural and Arts Journalist

Creative Manitoba is seeking two (2) dedicated Arts and Culture Journalists.

We are on the lookout for individuals who have a deep passion for the vibrant arts and culture landscape. The ideal candidates will be comfortable navigating various domains, including music, visual arts, theatre, literature, dance, culinary arts, and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the arts and culture editor.
  • Conceive and produce two 500-word articles focused on arts and culture each week.
  • Generate leads and summaries for news briefs related to the arts and culture sector.
  • Coordinate with the visual team to ensure appropriate visual content accompanies written pieces.
  • Effectively manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Participate in weekly pitch meetings, monthly section discussions, and professional development sessions.
  • Develop and write a feature article once per semester.
  • Adhere to all relevant editorial policies and guidelines, including the Canadian Press style and the Canadian Association of Journalists ethics standards.

Collaboration and Reporting Structure:

  • Reports directly to the arts and culture editor.
  • Works in conjunction with the managing editor, copy and style editor, illustrator, and photography team.
  • Applicants should possess a flexible schedule to accommodate regular meetings during the academic year.

This role is designed to require approximately 10 hours of work per week, with a compensation of $170 per week. The Arts and Culture Journalist will commence their term at the beginning of the academic year.
