Position Overview

The Pediatric Medicine and Intermediate Care Unit at our hospital is the largest unit dedicated to providing comprehensive inpatient care for pediatric patients. Our modern, well-equipped department is a vibrant and fast-paced environment where specialized medical services are delivered to children with intricate health challenges. We are committed to facilitating a smooth transition for new nurses entering the field through innovative orientation programs.

As a Registered Nurse in our Pediatric Medicine department, you will care for a diverse range of pediatric patients facing complex medical conditions, including congenital disorders, endocrine issues, gastrointestinal challenges, cardiac concerns, respiratory ailments, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological conditions, and trauma. Our comprehensive orientation program, led by seasoned healthcare professionals, ensures that all pediatric nurses are well-prepared for their roles.

As a vital member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Registered Nurse will coordinate and assess patient care, delivering nursing services in accordance with established standards of practice. This role emphasizes collaboration within both the medical and step-down units, fostering skill development and expertise in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Work Schedule

Rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or willingness to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Demonstrated understanding of nursing care and disease processes affecting acutely ill children.
  • Proven competence in caring for pediatric populations, including skills in vascular access and medication administration.
  • Ability to perform physical and psychosocial assessments tailored to pediatric patients.
  • Experience in health education for pediatric patients and their families.
  • Strong communication skills, particularly in high-stress situations, and ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and leadership capabilities.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and organizational initiatives.
  • Adaptability to rapid changes in patient conditions and workload.

As a condition of employment, proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required.
