About the Opportunity

Aecon is seeking a seasoned Project Controls Director to join our Urban Transportation Solutions group, supporting dynamic transit projects in Canada. This role is critical to ensuring the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee project compliance with Aecon's Project Controls standards and applicable contract documents.
  • Establish and maintain integrated Project Controls systems, setting cost and schedule baselines.
  • Lead project performance status meetings and communicate key metrics to the project team.
  • Lead a team of Project Controls staff, specializing in planning, scheduling, cost control, change management, and risk management.
  • Support Project Managers in tracking project health, establishing communication plans, and ensuring timely information flow.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Aecon's Project Controls policies and guidelines.
  • Oversee analysis and reporting of project performance key metrics, proposing corrective actions to maintain performance/productivity.
  • Implement and maintain Earned Value Management plans to measure project performance, identify variances, and inform accurate forecasting.
  • Develop and implement project-specific Project Controls plans, documenting processes and procedures.
  • Lead the development and implementation of project-specific change management plans, ensuring compliance with contract conditions and Aecon's standards.
  • Provide commercial and technical expertise to support proposal development and contractually defined project control requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to all contract conditions regarding Project Controls requirements, project set-up, monitoring, and close-out.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with client counterparts and joint venture stakeholders.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and implement performance improvement plans as needed.
  • Participate in project-level resource planning, utilization analysis, and resource leveling; manage and maintain Project Controls staffing plan forecasts.
  • Develop project-specific Risk Management Plans for incorporation into the Project Controls Plan.
  • Establish cadence for risk reviews, lead risk review meetings, and assist risk owners in establishing, implementing, and tracking mitigating actions and contingency plans.
  • Establish quantitative risk analysis (QRA) cadence, oversee QRA, and articulate results and variance analysis to project leadership.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 15+ years construction industry experience.
  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating, and cost control.
  • Strong knowledge of Earned Value Management principles.
  • Ability to produce, read, and modify schedules and scheduling curves/reports.
  • Natural leader and team builder who can build strong relationships quickly.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead project controls staff.
  • Proven strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly identify and articulate issues.
  • Proven problem solver with sound judgment who accepts ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees.
  • Detail-oriented and customer-focused.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of SAP and required project controls software, including Primavera, Hard Dollar, and Accubid.
