Position Overview

The City of Toronto is seeking a dedicated Systems Integration Specialist to join our Information Services team. This role is pivotal in providing technical expertise and guidance in the development, implementation, configuration, and maintenance of various digital solutions, particularly focusing on a Work and Asset Management System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver comprehensive software analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support.
  • Establish and nurture business relationships with internal stakeholders to assess and address their needs effectively.
  • Contribute significantly to the creation of Project Charters, Statements of Work, and Project Plans.
  • Develop Plans, Gap Analysis, Logical Data Models, and Design documentation for proposed solutions.
  • Prepare and present status updates for various work packages.
  • Evaluate and recommend technical process alternatives throughout project phases.
  • Identify potential risks and formulate mitigation strategies.
  • Lead the drafting of implementation and rollout strategies.
  • Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure deliverables are met.
  • Advise on the redesign of business principles, processes, policies, and standards, advocating for best practices and improvements.
  • Gather business requirements and facilitate consensus among clients.
  • Provide insights to Data Management teams regarding the transformation of business requirements.
  • Suggest enhancements to existing methodologies, processes, standards, and policies.
  • Work closely with staff to develop test strategies, test cases, and test scripts for system, performance, and usability acceptance testing.
  • Assist team members in understanding business processes and logic.
  • Conduct reviews of deliverables to pinpoint areas for improvement.
  • Create training materials and documentation for client and staff use.
  • Compile findings and 'Lessons Learned' for post-implementation reviews.
  • Facilitate training sessions for clients and their staff.

Essential Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in computer science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in software development methodologies, particularly for web and mobile interfaces.
  • Significant experience in database design and implementation.
  • Proficient in conducting testing and developing or utilizing test scripts for solutions, systems, or technical processes.
  • Experience collaborating with business users to ascertain their requirements, analyze information processes, and propose solutions.

Additional Skills

  • Ability to create and document program specifications and code documents, including use cases, flowcharts, entity relationship diagrams, and data integration using SSIS and ETL processes.
  • Capable of managing competing demands, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies related to internet technology, particularly in web, mobile, and geospatial domains.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to customer service, high-quality work, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with technologies such as PHP, Perl, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/JQuery, XML, JSON, JSP, J2EE, ASP.NET, and SSL.
  • Familiarity with SQL/SQL Server and/or Oracle DB, Oracle Forms, and Reports.
