Position Overview:

The Scientific Medical Consultant within the Medical Affairs division will play a pivotal role in delivering expert scientific insight and leadership while overseeing a diverse array of Medical Affairs initiatives related to their designated products and therapeutic area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as a representative of the medical affairs function within the Respiratory cross-functional team, fostering engagement with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide strategic direction and advice concerning the development of the respiratory inhaled product portfolio, focusing on specific medications within this range.
  • Assess and support the formulation and execution of local research strategies aimed at bridging data gaps and enhancing the scientific and clinical comprehension of GSK medications.
  • Lead external scientific and clinical discussions with the medical and scientific community, ensuring the medical voice of the customer is effectively communicated back to the organization through various channels, including one-on-one interactions, advisory boards, medical education, congress presentations, and publications.
  • Collaborate with the Medical team, cross-functional teams, and global teams to offer scientific and clinical expertise, guidance, and technical leadership on GSK products in the Canadian market by devising and implementing a comprehensive local medical strategy and customer engagement plans.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Deliver expert scientific knowledge regarding products and diseases, providing trusted medical leadership to GSK Canada and international Medical Networks.
  • Enhance and utilize high-quality scientific knowledge and expertise across the organization in partnership with Medical Strategic Operations and Capability Excellence.
  • Ensure excellence in external engagement characterized by timely, responsible, and responsive interactions with the external medical and scientific community to foster a mutually beneficial scientific partnership.
  • Regularly review and analyze data analytics and the medical voice of the customer to extract insights and formulate action plans that align with the medical strategy.
  • Lead the development and execution of a local Medical Strategic Plan for medications within the assigned therapeutic area, which includes:
    • Identifying research interests and creating timely local study protocols to advance the scientific understanding of our medications.
    • Recognizing areas of interest for medical education.
    • Identifying needs for advisory board interactions and overseeing their implementation and follow-up.
    • Ensuring alignment with commercial strategic planning.
    • Managing research budgets and forecasting processes for assigned products and therapeutic areas.
  • Evaluate investigator-sponsored studies to promote research on diseases and their treatments, aligned with identified research interests.
  • Deliver reports and local publications pertaining to local research activities.
  • Assist the Therapeutic Area Director in reviewing all medical grant and donation requests, including Independent Medical Education requests and congress sponsorship requests, to ensure alignment with therapeutic area strategies.
  • Lead the development and execution of advice-seeking interactions, such as one-on-one meetings and advisory boards.
  • Oversee the management of therapy-aligned medical content to fulfill the Global HCP Engagement Initiative.
  • Utilize medical and scientific knowledge to ensure that all produced materials are medically and scientifically accurate and comply with local and GSK standards.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven ability to apply scientific knowledge and lead research initiatives.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Canadian healthcare landscape.
  • Strong relationship management skills with internal and external partners, including Key External Experts and global stakeholders.
  • Ability to leverage scientific knowledge effectively.
  • Proficient in developing timely and impactful research protocols and study reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Advanced postgraduate scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD).
  • Experience in Industry Medical Affairs, particularly in the Respiratory field.
  • Demonstrated capability to function as a strategic partner with commercial teams.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Solid business and financial acumen.
