Job Title: IT Network Specialist

Compensation: Competitive Salary

Reports To: Supervisor, Network Services and Client Support

Department: Corporate Services

Work Schedule: Standard 35 hours per week, with core hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Environment: Primarily office-based with occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and urgent departmental situations. Physical demands may include lifting up to 22.2 kg (50 lbs) occasionally, and up to 4.4 kg (10 lbs) frequently.

Position Overview:

The IT Network Specialist is tasked with ensuring the stability and integrity of the organization's IT infrastructure. This includes the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of networking, server, storage, backup, and client systems, all while safeguarding system security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, monitor, and manage IT infrastructure, focusing on:
  • Network and server software, services, and hardware to maintain high availability, performance, and security.
  • Enterprise data storage and backup systems to ensure data security and continuity.
  • Voice communication systems and services, including telecom design and support.
  • Video surveillance systems and services.
  • Client computing devices and software to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Mobile computing technology services, focusing on data delivery and security.
  • Develop scripts and/or programs to support technical and business systems.
  • Provide advanced support for IT technical staff.
  • Offer expertise and leadership to business units and project teams for technology acquisition and maintenance.
  • Recommend infrastructure and security standards to IT management.
  • Evaluate technology purchase requirements for IT management.
  • Participate in IT governance and key project teams as assigned.
  • Maintain inventory records of all related hardware and software.
  • Coordinate service and support with external providers.

As a Professional Team Member:

  • Administer procedures and propose solutions for process improvements.
  • Conduct ongoing research and analysis of industry trends to inform management and stay current in the field.
  • Address customer service concerns, investigating and resolving issues within established processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve defined outcomes, reporting challenges to management as necessary.
  • Maintain documentation and records in compliance with policy and regulations.
  • Provide data for reporting and decision-making purposes.
  • Procure services and goods as authorized by management.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Computer Systems or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience, ideally in a municipal context.
  • Current knowledge and experience in network and IT infrastructure design, implementation, and administration.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server environments, enterprise-grade backup solutions, and end-user hardware.
  • Experience managing mobile devices through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, including licensing, user provisioning, and security.
  • Knowledge of internetworking hardware and services for effective troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools and security incident response procedures.
  • Understanding of networking protocols and Internet standards.
  • Familiarity with network hardware such as switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience with Virtual Private Networks (VPN) and remote access technologies.
  • Ability to stay current with relevant certifications as needed.
  • Proficient in scripting languages for task automation.
  • Experience with service desk software.
  • Knowledge of project process principles.
  • ITIL Foundations Certificate is required or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License is required.
