Job Title: IT Network Specialist

Reporting To: Supervisor, Network Services and Client Support

Department: Corporate Services

Work Schedule: Standard working hours of 35 hours per week, with core hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Environment: A blend of office settings and occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and urgent departmental situations. The role may require the ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs occasionally, and up to 20 lbs frequently.

Position Overview:

The IT Network Specialist is tasked with ensuring the reliability and security of the organization's IT framework. This includes the planning, design, implementation, and maintenance of networking, server, storage, backup, and client systems across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plan, design, implement, monitor, and manage IT infrastructure, focusing on:
  • Network and server software, services, and hardware to maintain optimal availability, performance, and security.
  • Enterprise data storage and backup systems to guarantee data availability and security.
  • Voice communication systems and telecom support.
  • Video surveillance technologies and services.
  • Client computing devices and software for high performance and security.
  • Mobile technology services, including data delivery and security.
  • Develop scripts and programming to support technical and business systems.
  • Provide advanced support for IT technical staff.
  • Offer expertise and leadership to business units and project teams in technology acquisition and implementation.
  • Advise on infrastructure and security standards to IT management.
  • Evaluate technology purchase requirements for IT management.
  • Participate in IT governance and key project teams as assigned.
  • Maintain comprehensive inventory records of all hardware and software.
  • Coordinate service and support with external vendors.

As a Professional Team Member:

  • Administer procedures and propose solutions for process improvements.
  • Conduct ongoing research and analysis of industry trends to provide management with informed recommendations.
  • Address customer service issues, investigate, and resolve concerns while adhering to defined processes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve defined outcomes and report challenges to management.
  • Maintain documentation and records in compliance with policy and regulations.
  • Facilitate data provision for reporting and decision-making.
  • Procure services and goods as authorized by management.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma in Computer Systems or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in a similar role, preferably within a municipal context.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience in network and IT infrastructure design, implementation, and administration.
  • Familiarity with Windows and Linux server environments, enterprise-grade backup solutions, and end-user hardware.
  • Experience managing mobile devices through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) platform.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365, including licensing and security management.
  • Understanding of SCADA IT environments with a focus on security and infrastructure planning.
  • Comprehensive understanding of networking hardware and services for effective troubleshooting.
  • Experience with vulnerability management tools and security incident response procedures.
  • Familiarity with current networking protocols and Internet standards.
  • Working knowledge of network hardware such as switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Experience with VPN solutions and remote access technologies.
  • Ability to stay current with relevant certifications, including CCNA/CCNP, SSCP, CISSP, MCSE, and RHCE.
  • Experience with scripting languages for task automation.
  • Familiarity with service desk software.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • ITIL Foundations Certificate is required or willingness to obtain.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related software applications.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License is required.
