Job Overview

The Program Operations Supervisor is tasked with directing the production team’s activities within the Western Region. This role involves managing unionized personnel to guarantee the safe, high-quality, and efficient production and distribution of track products for Engineering's Capital and Maintenance initiatives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Employee Performance and Safety Oversight

  • Provide effective and engaging leadership to unionized staff.
  • Enhance team and individual performance through mentoring, training, coaching, and constructive feedback.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Engage with customers to clarify detailed product specifications, timelines, and shipping needs.

Track Programs and Safety Leadership

  • Oversee and manage products throughout the entire production cycle, including planning, scheduling, staffing, production, inventory management, loading, shipping, and documentation.
  • Adhere to production schedules while managing customer expectations.
  • Ensure production processes are cost-effective and that shipments are timely.
  • Establish and implement standard operating procedures to ensure safe and quality production.
  • Monitor and ensure that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to safety, quality, and efficiency are achieved or surpassed.
  • Conduct inspections of major track work in compliance with CN track standards.

Working Environment

This position primarily involves outdoor work (90%) with limited office duties (10%), and requires adaptability to various weather conditions. The role necessitates significant travel (80%) across the western region to oversee projects and programs. The incumbent will work a 10/4 schedule, which includes overnight travel. Availability for on-call duties 24/7 for critical incidents is required. The role demands the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage stress effectively.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role within a unionized production environment, including planning, coordinating, scheduling, and auditing operations.

Education/Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR) Card.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • Project and time management capabilities.
  • Willingness to learn critical business systems, including SAP for Production Planning, Payroll, and Time Reporting.
  • Interest in learning additional systems such as Service Reliability System (SRS) and Safety Risk Management (SRM) applications.
