Recreation Leader 2

Job Summary:

The City of Burnaby is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Recreation Leader 2 to join our team. As a Recreation Leader 2, you will be responsible for implementing a variety of social, cultural, and recreational activities within our community centers, including services for senior citizens and supervising seasonal and part-time staff, contractual instructors, and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, lead, and promote interest in individual program plans and schedules
  • Direct the implementation of program activities, providing leadership, coaching, or instruction
  • Assess program results and recommend any changes
  • Establish and maintain close liaison with community groups and the general public
  • Prepare promotional material and address various groups relative to program offerings
  • Provide guidance, advice, and referrals as required
  • Review and make recommendations as to program offerings
  • Prepare and maintain records, activity reports, schedules, requisitions, and maintain equipment and supply inventories
  • Enforce rules and regulations and ensure that required standards of behavior and safety are maintained
  • Identify and assess facility needs and plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate a variety of programs and activities
  • Participate in the recruitment of and give guidance and instruction to part-time recreation program and auxiliary staff and contract instructors, including training, directing, and evaluating volunteers
  • In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the operation and security of a recreation facility

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College
  • Some related experience
  • St. John's First Aid and CPR Certificates are desirable
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience

Working Conditions:

  • 70 hours bi-weekly
  • Monday and Thursday from 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Tuesday and Friday 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Wednesday 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
