About the Role

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Airport Surface Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Airfield Maintenance department, you will be responsible for maintaining the airport's surfaces, roads, and ground-related areas, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the airport.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair airport surfaces, including airside and groundside areas, using specialized equipment and techniques.
  • Conduct regular inspections and cleaning of airport areas, including the removal of foreign object debris (FOD) and litter.
  • Repair and maintain fences and non-illuminated signs, as well as inspecting signs and fences as required.
  • Respond to spills and clean up debris on the airfield and groundside, and deliver airport emergency support equipment as needed.
  • Train new employees on the proper use of surface maintenance equipment and conduct AVOP training as assigned.
  • Conduct daily inspections and cleaning of mobile equipment and vehicles, and maintain the cleanliness of assigned facilities.
  • Operate tractors, mowers, and hand-held trimming machines to maintain grass areas.
  • Operate equipment designed to control ice and snow contamination on the movement area.
  • Clear obstructions such as snow and ice from airfield edge markers, signs, and other areas as required.
  • Apply de-icing and anti-icing chemicals as needed.
Requirements
  • Secondary School education and/or experience in heavy equipment operation.
  • Valid "D/Z" Provincial Driver's License.
  • "D" class Airside Vehicle Operator's Permit (AVOP) or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Snow removal, construction, and heavy equipment experience an asset.
  • Must meet the security level designated for the position.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance.
