Position Overview:

This role is for a course coordinator and partial instructor for a graduate-level course in Biological Statistics, specifically designed for students enrolled in the MHSc Medical Genomics program.

Course Details:

The course emphasizes the critical skills needed to analyze genomic data, integrating bioinformatics and statistical methodologies. Students will gain hands-on experience with the R programming language and UNIX shell, learning to perform statistical analyses on biological datasets.

Learning Outcomes:

By the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Utilize the UNIX shell and related tools effectively.
  2. Comprehend fundamental programming concepts.
  3. Select and execute suitable statistical analyses using R.

Course Structure:

The course comprises a blend of lectures, assignments, and assessments, focusing primarily on individual performance. The expected class schedule includes three lectures and one tutorial each week.

Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will be responsible for delivering a two-week module on big data, specifically addressing cluster and cloud computing. Duties include:

  • Preparing lecture materials and assignments in advance.
  • Engaging with students and addressing their inquiries.
  • Conducting the introductory lecture on the first day.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for students and fellow instructors.
  • Supervising the final term assessment.
  • Providing additional support sessions focused on R programming.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess an advanced degree (PhD) in genetics, genomics, molecular biology, computational biology, or biostatistics/bioinformatics. Preference will be given to those with prior university-level teaching experience.
