East Asian Studies Sessional Lecturer

Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Sessional Lecturer in East Asian Studies. This position involves teaching a course focused on significant aspects of Chinese and/or Korean culture, history, and literature, with a particular emphasis on the historical context of food and consumption.

Course Details:

  • Course Title: Sessional Lecturer EAS296H1S - Topics in East Asian Studies
  • Course Enrollment: Approximately 80 students
  • Class Schedule: Wednesdays from 5 PM to 7 PM

Appointment Duration:

The appointment will commence on January 1 and conclude on April 30 of the following year.

Compensation:

Compensation will be based on the lecturer's rank, with rates starting from $9 per hour, including vacation pay, and may vary according to the collective agreement.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a completed PhD in a relevant field, demonstrating significant graduate-level work and ongoing academic engagement. Preferred candidates will have university-level teaching experience and a record of excellent teaching evaluations.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and delivering engaging lesson plans and lectures
  • Creating and administering assessments, including assignments and exams
  • Providing academic support through scheduled office hours
