About the Role:

This pivotal leadership role within Harris Geospatial Solutions is responsible for steering the Operations division across various facilities, including the Waterdown and Don Mills Wescam sites, along with several international locations. The Vice President of Operations will manage the complete manufacturing workflow, with several senior managers from diverse departments such as Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Continuous Improvement, Facilities Management, Manufacturing Engineering, and Environmental Health & Safety reporting directly to this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulates the manufacturing strategy and sets forth procedures to uphold superior standards of operational excellence, ensuring product quality aligns with established customer and corporate benchmarks.
  • Collaborates with executive leadership to define and achieve organizational objectives while providing expertise and direction on operational initiatives and systems.
  • Optimizes workforce levels alongside indirect and material expenditures to align with the annual financial plan.
  • Develops and proposes manufacturing policies and programs that assist the organization in enhancing its competitive edge and operational profitability.
  • Oversees and evaluates departmental management to fulfill the objectives of the manufacturing strategy, integrating operational strategies into manufacturing practices that adhere to established safety and quality protocols.
  • Serves as a communication bridge between departmental management and executive levels, ensuring all personnel are informed about decisions, policies, and other factors impacting their performance and outcomes.
  • Recruits, trains, mentors, and assesses staff performance, taking timely corrective actions in accordance with company policies and ensuring compliance.
  • Identifies, suggests, and executes improvements to enhance productivity while minimizing costs and waste, closely monitoring scrap and rework metrics.
  • Ensures adherence to AS9100D standards.
  • Establishes and maintains quality control systems to guarantee products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Directs the establishment and upkeep of production benchmarks.
  • Coordinates essential programs related to manufacturing processes, including training, safety, cleanliness, cost reduction, employee engagement, and security.
  • Initiates and manages significant projects such as plant layout modifications, capital equipment installations, major repairs, and technology enhancements.
  • Engages in the strategic planning process alongside senior management to develop both long-term and short-term policies, programs, and objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, fostering a secure working environment.
  • Collaborates across functions with teams such as Supply Chain, Engineering, Customer Support, and Sales to maintain a strong customer focus and drive business success.
  • Champions the integration of new technologies and automation to refine manufacturing processes.
  • Monitors and reports on critical performance indicators (KPIs), offering insights and recommendations for enhancements.
  • Provides updates to the senior executive team.

Required Skills and Experiences:

  • A minimum of 10 years in senior management roles demonstrating operational, financial, and strategic responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to lead, engage, and motivate high-performing operational teams.
  • A strong track record as a team leader committed to operational excellence, with expertise in Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead and expand an organization, establish strategic direction, and drive scalable process enhancements.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven history of achieving developmental objectives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and developing key performance metrics while attracting top talent.
  • Strong business acumen related to operational goals and objectives, including cross-functional leadership experience.

  • Superior strategic, organizational, analytical, and abstract reasoning skills with meticulous attention to detail.

Desired Education:
