We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter specializing in commercial auto and property insurance. Our commercial division is expanding rapidly, presenting numerous opportunities for professional growth. In this role, you will work closely with internal teams to identify new business prospects and offer expert technical guidance to brokers and clients, ensuring accurate risk pricing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and select business opportunities by assessing client requirements and risk profiles to enhance revenue and profitability.
- Establish and nurture relationships with various departments and external partners to deliver exceptional service to brokers and clients.
- Maintain the quality and profitability of the mid-market portfolio; escalate risks that exceed your authority to specialists.
- Provide expert insights in market research and analysis; perform profitability assessments of rates, coverages, and product enhancements.
- Assist in the prompt implementation and communication of rates, coverages, and product modifications, including drafting underwriting bulletins and contributing to the development of guidelines and procedures.
- Identify potential issues in claims ratios and risk trends, and implement strategies for resolution as necessary.
- Become proficient in all insurance company software systems and applications.
- Engage in quality control and audits as required.
- Help maintain a compliant underwriting environment in alignment with filed rates and regulations.
- Participate in regulatory filings for rate changes and compile submissions for mid-market risk selection and forms.
- Stay informed about industry trends, news, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in business or related fields.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in risk assessment for commercial property and/or auto insurance.
- PAA designation or currently pursuing it.
- Strong understanding of risk analysis, pricing, and products in key sectors such as wholesalers, industrial, and entrepreneurial ventures.
- Basic knowledge of other business areas (claims, risk management, accounting, etc.).
- Comprehensive understanding of risk selection principles, insurance contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting manuals, legal constraints, and operational procedures with computer tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, RTM, commercial insurance systems, and related software.
- Ability to interact professionally to foster long-term relationships with brokers and clients.
- Capacity to collaborate with internal teams to ensure an exceptional experience for brokers and clients.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying business opportunities with brokers and clients.
- Ability to listen attentively to brokers' and clients' needs to respond effectively.
