Engineering Lead, Target Delivery System

The Target Delivery System Engineering Lead position provides technical leadership for a multidisciplinary engineering team supporting the Target Delivery System (TDS) maintenance and operations at a nuclear power generation site. The team is accountable for the safe and reliable operation of the TDS and will include design, development, operational support, reliability enhancements, preventative/predictive maintenance planning, outage support, and field and installation activities.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a multifunctional engineering team to maintain the operational requirements of TDS, including daily support to operations, design changes, and maintenance.
- Facilitate proper plans and schedules with individual contributors and ownership of the cost/schedule commitments of the team.
- Create and enforce the use of Task Definition Forms (TDFs) for work assignments.
- Actively participate in resource planning, recruitment, interviewing, and onboarding.
- Contribute directly to the support of the system, with knowledge of the design and design change process.
- Respond to production concerns, leading the cross-functional team through effective problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making.
- Interface with key partner resources, including Laurentis Energy Partners, OPG operations, BWXT Medical operations, and BWXT Field Services.
- Provide support for parts and kits supply and the execution of regular maintenance, including during reactor outages.
- Provide immediate response to unplanned maintenance, with 24/7 support required for issues affecting planned production.
- Participate in and lead internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.
- Provide technical direction and oversight of design activities, including technical review and verification of documentation and/or drawings.
- Maintain detailed knowledge of nuclear codes and standards applicable to the Canadian Nuclear environment.
- Ensure compliance and adherence to processes, industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
- Provide assurance of health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
- Travel (approximately 30%) will be required, with the core support team stationed in Peterborough, Ontario.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Nuclear, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Holds or is in the process of obtaining a valid PEO license.
- Experience with the Target Delivery System design, fabrication, and assembly or operation is considered an asset.
- Typically requires 5 to 10 years' experience in design or manufacturing engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Mining, Oil and Gas, or other highly regulated and process-based design.
- Typically requires 3 years' experience in design or manufacturing environment, with proven success in a leadership role.
- Demonstrable experience with project schedules, working within budgets, financial metrics, and other project management methodologies.
- Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments, including mechanical, systems, I&C, software design, and manufacturing, is considered an asset.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
- Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills, strong technical experience, and the ability to work in a team.
- Experience with 3D CAD software, preferably Inventor/Solidworks.
- Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry, with strong preference for on-site experience at a nuclear operating plant. Valid security clearance, orange badge, Vendor MTL, and Vendor DTL qualifications are considered assets.
- Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
- Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.
- Familiarity with risk-based modification process, including a general understanding of Engineering Change Control concepts in the nuclear industry.
