Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team at FortisBC. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, corporate policies, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide environmental regulatory support to various internal business units to manage hazardous wastes, dangerous goods, and/or contaminated sites.
  • Manage environmental consultant activities to ensure regulatory requirements are achieved without disruption to project schedules.
  • Review proposals, cost estimates, scopes of work, and environmental investigation reports and provide recommendations to stakeholder groups.
  • Build strong relationships with internal business units and external regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • A diploma or bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental or chemical engineering, environmental science, natural resource management, environmental planning, hydrogeology, or biology.
  • Four to seven years of experience in managing environmental issues relating to waste management, dangerous goods, or contaminated sites.
  • Field experience with all aspects of the Hazardous Waste Regulation, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations, and/or Contaminated Sites Regulation.
  • Excellent strategic decision-making skills and proven technical expertise to make difficult decisions on complex projects.
  • Working knowledge of other federal and provincial environmental legislation, regulations, bylaws (federal, provincial, and municipal) as related to the energy industry.
