Job Summary
The Graduate Assistant - Teaching and Research position at Toronto Metropolitan University is a dynamic opportunity for a graduate student to gain teaching and research experience while supporting the academic mission of the university.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for classes, develop and maintain course-related materials, and revise as needed.
- Attend lectures and participate in discussions.
- Serve as a tutor, lead discussions, and supervise laboratories.
- Demonstrate and explain the use of equipment, assist students with technical procedures, and help with project work.
- Coordinate and lead the work of other graduate assistants or teaching assistants.
- Hold office hours and consult with students, including electronic consultation.
- Assist with grading tests, lab sets, essays, and term papers, and proctor tests, midterms, and quizzes.
- Monitor the working condition of equipment in the assigned laboratory or learning environment.
- Attend mandatory training and orientation workshops, and perform invigilation duties for mid-term or final exams as required.
Qualifications
- Previous evaluation of performance as an assistant at the university (if applicable).
- Enrolled in a Master's or PhD program at Toronto Metropolitan University or another institution.
- Greater preference will be given to Doctoral candidates, then Master's candidates.
- MAECS students are preferred.
- Relevant experience, including taking CLD 332 Families in Canadian Context II at Toronto Metropolitan University or another educational institution, is an asset.
- Previous TAGA experience is preferred.
- A minimum GPA of 3.5 is required.
- Availability to work on Wednesdays from 9am to 12pm is a must.
Compensation
- Master's students will be paid $47.06 per hour.
- PhD students will be paid $50.82 per hour.
