Position Overview

As a Collection Systems Operator Apprentice, you will be engaged in essential operations within the wastewater and stormwater management sector. This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions and performing tasks that are critical to maintaining the integrity of our sewer systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct scheduled and emergency maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of sanitary and stormwater sewer systems, including pipes and pumping stations.
  • Safely operate a range of vehicles, tools, and equipment necessary for the job.
  • Perform inspections and respond to incidents such as flooding, sewer backups, and customer inquiries.
  • Execute cleaning and maintenance tasks for sewers, catch basins, and related infrastructure.
  • Load and unload materials and equipment as required, ensuring proper handling and care.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports of daily activities and tasks performed.
  • Be available for overtime work in response to emergency situations.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and advance within the role.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver's License.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience in a similar operational environment.
  • Willingness to obtain certification as an Operator-in-Training within the first six months of employment.
Physical and Technical Requirements
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including working in confined spaces and adverse weather conditions.
