The Appeals Secretariat functions as an impartial government entity that assists all parties involved in an appeal, ensuring a fair and timely process for residents. The Secretariat also offers support, including training and development, to the Citizen's Appeal Panel, which conducts fair and unbiased hearings.

Reporting to the Manager of Appeal Operations, your responsibilities will include overseeing notices of appeal that require time extensions, managing staff in daily case operations, and providing direction to appeal panels to ensure adherence to the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness. Appeal panels will address cases under various Acts, including but not limited to:
- Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) Act
- Income and Employment Supports (IES) Act
- Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) Act
- Person with Developmental Disabilities (PDD) Services Act
- Seniors Benefit Act
- Child, Youth and Family Enhancement (CYFE) Act
- Early Learning and Child Care (ELCC) Act
- Protection for Persons in Care Act
- Continuing Care Act
- Mental Health Services Protection Act
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Analyzing legislation and legal opinions and communicating this information to appeal panels;
- Managing intricate appeals;
- Making determinations on hearings by evaluating evidence and issuing written decisions regarding time extension requests;
- Providing leadership and guidance to Appeals Officers;
- Addressing escalations and critical issues to ensure the safety of staff and panel members.

A university degree in a relevant field along with two years of progressively responsible experience is required. Supervisory experience is essential, and familiarity with frontline operations is preferred. Experience with administrative tribunals, interpreting legislation/legal opinions, judicial decision writing, and issues management is advantageous.
This position is based in the Appeals Secretariat office. This competition may also be utilized to fill future vacancies at the same or lower classification. Final candidates will undergo academic verification and security screening.
