Manufacturing Supervisor Shift: 1stSalary: $70,000
Location: CanadaThe Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the production workflow and managing their designated work area or shift to meet established objectives through continuous feedback. This role involves supporting the Production Manager in daily operations to ensure the production line runs smoothly by providing leadership and guidance to the team, helping them meet performance expectations. The Supervisor monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) and identifies opportunities for improvement, establishing actionable items to enhance the efficiency of their area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise a team or small department (up to 15 individuals)
- Provide direction, training, and support to team members
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures
- Achieve business objectives within defined parameters (budget, targets, etc.)
- Manage workflow related to shipping, saw tips, and grinding
- Report on production output
- Resolve non-conformance reports (NCR)
- Investigate and address customer complaints
- Oversee purchasing of raw materials for saw tips and grinding departments
- Act as a backup for purchasing, including coordination of subcontract orders
Accountabilities:
- Identify and track performance indicators to assess support for operational plans
- Plan and communicate production, manpower, and quality requirements
- Manage the annual operating budget for the area of responsibility
- Foster a performance-driven culture through succession planning and talent development
- Ensure compliance with SOX regulations regarding end-of-month shipments
- Ensure materials are received by the designated end user
- Investigate shipping claims for damaged or lost items
- Meet monthly shipment goals
- Prepare customs documentation for freight as necessary
- Ensure expedited orders are processed according to instructions
- Manage cycle count schedules
- Reduce excess and obsolete inventory
- Reconcile discrepancies as needed
Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic professional knowledge to resolve routine issues and analyze data for prioritization
- Fundamental leadership skills in performance management and team building
- Accountable for the performance of the functional area and tracking efficiencies
- Contribute to financial goals through defined work tasks and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist in the development of execution plans based on strategic direction
- Evaluate production dashboards and operator efficiencies using KPIs
- Utilize resources effectively to execute operational plans
- Influence team members to facilitate decision-making
- Assist in troubleshooting quality or customer-related issues
- Work within clear objectives and defined procedures with some discretion
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of Grade 12 education; post-secondary education in Operations Management or a related field is advantageous
- Understanding of lean principles and manufacturing processes
- Strong knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques
- 1-3 years of experience in a relevant functional area
- Supervisory experience managing a minimum of 7 employees
