Role:
As an Aquatic Safety Specialist, your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of aquatic facilities while providing enjoyable experiences for all participants. You will engage with our customers, community, and team members in ways that are impactful and driving, advancing our mission, and playing a crucial role in bringing Vivo experiences to life. Your passion and accountability will contribute to delivering strong results and positive impact.
Reports to: Aquatics Manager, Aquatic Programs Coordinator, Aquatic Deck Lead & Head Guards
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for customers regarding experiences in all areas of the Aquatics section, enhancing each guest's experience.
- Utilize active guarding techniques such as roaming, scanning, and conducting blind spot checks.
- Adhere to Vivo policies and procedures in alignment with the Lifesaving Society's Lifeguard Code of Conduct.
- Exhibit a high standard of Safety Supervision and implement best practices for incident prevention.
- Respond promptly and effectively in emergency situations, maintaining clarity while managing multiple priorities.
- Comply with all training and certification requirements in accordance with Standard First Aid and National Lifeguard certifications and Alberta Health Services Standards.
- Lead and/or assist in high-stress emergency situations by following established Emergency Response Procedures and providing support to the entire facility.
- Ensure customer adherence to safety standards and procedures at all times.
- Contribute to a safe working environment by following all Vivo Health and Safety protocols.
- Engage in exploring, experimenting, and implementing innovative ways to create play-based and inclusive learning experiences in the Aquatics area.
- Demonstrate an energetic, approachable, and active demeanor to inspire guests and foster a sense of belonging.
- Build authentic and respectful relationships with guests and all Vivo team members to enhance the community experience.
- Seek guidance from Aquatics management as needed.
- Take responsibility for the cleanliness, maintenance, and operations of the Aquatic facility by completing all assigned tasks as outlined by Aquatics Management.
- Be prepared to work with cleaning chemicals, ensuring the use of proper PPE and adherence to WHMIS guidelines.
- Maintain respectful communication protocols via radio.
- Conduct timely water tests and report findings to facility operations.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, professional development activities, and facility events for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the team to develop tools and materials that meet guest and organizational needs.
- Share your individual passions and talents to advocate for healthier generations.
- Act as a role model for teamwork and lead the positive energy each shift to cultivate a supportive work environment.
- Respect and manage equipment and the environment to ensure safety and the ability to engage in play.
- Maintain the fitness level necessary to fulfill the practical aspects of Lifeguarding.
- Ensure all certifications are current and provide copies to management.
Qualifications:
- Current National Lifeguard Certification.
- Minimum age of 16 years.
- Current Intermediate First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications.
- Swim and Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner and First Aid Instructor certifications are considered assets.
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, current within 2 months (Receipt of application accepted).
Full-time (30 hours+/week) and part-time positions available. Full-time employees are eligible for benefits upon successful completion of the probationary period.*
** Please note that all Lifeguard only applicants will be required to obtain their Swim and Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner award within 6 months of their start date.**
