About the Role

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Archaeology and Cultural Heritage Specialist to join our team in British Columbia. This is a unique opportunity to work on a variety of archaeological projects, including those related to infrastructure development, environmental assessments, and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Lead and manage archaeological field programs, including consultation with Indigenous communities and stakeholders to ensure that projects are conducted in a culturally sensitive and responsible manner.
  • Business Development: Develop and implement strategies to grow AECOM's archaeological portfolios, including the development of project proposals and business development activities.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical archaeological assessment and reporting services, including the evaluation of the effectiveness of archaeological programs and services.
  • Community Engagement: Consult with Indigenous Peoples and communities in B.C. on archaeology projects, including the development of consultation plans, identification of potential adverse effects, and the identification of mitigation and accommodation measures.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with multi-disciplinary teams and project managers to develop archaeological and Indigenous consultation strategies supporting environmental assessments, community engagement plans, and infrastructure development projects.
  • Relationship Management: Manage relationships with clients and Indigenous communities, including the development and maintenance of strong working relationships.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree and/or technical diploma in archaeology or a related field.
  • Experience: A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in archaeological project management, including experience working with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
  • Permits and Licenses: Must be able to hold a permit to complete archaeological assessments in one or more B.C. Culture Areas.
  • Skills and Abilities: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities and project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience: A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in archaeological project management, including experience working on large infrastructure projects in B.C.
  • Relationships: Existing relationships with Indigenous communities in B.C. and a strong understanding of regional and community characteristics.
  • Knowledge: Acknowledge of the unique historical, contemporary, cultural, and traditional characteristics of Indigenous communities in B.C., including their socio-economic relationships with the land and their unique knowledge of the natural environment.
