The Role
We are in search of a Certified Counselor for our Rehabilitation Facility. This position offers a permanent schedule of one week on and one week off. You will have the opportunity to work within a growing organization, gaining invaluable experience in the rehabilitation care sector.
*On-site accommodations and meals will be provided during your shifts.
As a Certified Counselor, reporting to the Team Lead and Treatment Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in promoting positive life skills and mitigating the adverse effects of substance abuse. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting lectures, facilitating group sessions, and providing one-on-one counseling. Key duties encompass:
- Delivering person-centered, recovery-oriented, and culturally sensitive assessments, treatments, case management, crisis intervention, education, and referral services.
- Managing a caseload of 1 to 8 clients, including maintaining case files and preparing patient reports.
- Administering medication while ensuring its therapeutic appropriateness and proper usage.
- Creating and executing individualized treatment plans tailored to each client's unique needs.
- Assessing and addressing clients' physical, familial, social, mental, emotional, and educational requirements through positive social interactions.
- Documenting relevant data that may influence patient treatment outcomes.
- Maintaining comprehensive records to comply with NNADAP statistical requirements.
- Implementing policies and procedures to ensure high-quality care and the safety of clients and staff.
- Conducting educational sessions on the risks and consequences associated with substance use.
Your Profile
As a Certified Counselor, you possess extensive expertise in your field and a genuine passion for helping others. Essential skills include:
- Providing accurate and timely information to stakeholders, facilitating discussions through open-ended questions, and actively listening.
- Maintaining composure and a calm demeanor in challenging situations.
- Exhibiting patience and understanding when faced with resistance.
- Communicating effectively and concisely when providing updates.
- Building strong relationships with colleagues and organizational leaders.
Your qualifications include:
- Certification as an Addictions Counselor (CCAC) from a recognized institution.
- Post-secondary education in counseling, social work, or a related field, including diplomas, degrees, or certificates in Psychology or community addictions/mental health.
- Registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers or College of Alberta Psychologists is advantageous.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a counseling role.
- Proven track record in developing effective treatment strategies.
- Experience in writing assessments and progress reports.
- First Aid and CPR Level C certifications.
- Familiarity with clerical procedures for record-keeping.
- Knowledge of evidence-based practices, motivational interviewing, and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
