Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that client belongings are stored, retrieved, and catalogued in accordance with established procedures.
  • Complete all duties assigned to shifts in accordance with the position task list.
  • Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained on a regular basis.
  • Participate in regular wellness checks and report any concerns to the Environmental Services Director.
  • Assist in completing bed bug checks and bagging and tagging procedures as required.
  • Report any damage to property or equipment to the Environmental Services Director.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings to review operational effectiveness and changes in policies and procedures.

Health and Safety:

  • Work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Abide by The Salvation Army's health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Report workplace hazards and dangers to the Environmental Services Director.
  • Use personal protective equipment and clothing as directed by the employer.

Working Conditions:

Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to the needs of the facility. Applicable shifts include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • A minimum of two years' experience in a janitorial/maintenance related field.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Professional level of cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Demonstrates janitorial/maintenance skills at a professional level.
  • Capable of operating mechanized cleaning and maintenance equipment.
  • Treats the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
  • Participates in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development, and training.
  • Participates in regular supervision and performance appraisal process.
  • Represents the organization in a positive, professional, and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures, and associated legislation.
  • Exhibits good listening skills, has strong oral/written communication skills, and respects authority.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
  • Leads by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Develops an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.
