Network Operations Technician

Excel Group Inc. is seeking a skilled professional in the dynamic field of telecommunications.

The Network Operations Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring a reliable network infrastructure, overseeing the installation and configuration of wireline networks, as well as engaging in network design and execution. The ideal candidate will exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills and a keen attention to detail. This role involves collaboration with a team of technicians and reporting to the senior technician.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organizing daily tasks and preparing comprehensive documentation for clients.
  • Collaborating with project leads and managers to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Installation, testing, and upkeep of telecommunications equipment in data centers, central offices, hubs, and cell sites.
  • Structured cabling work, including fiber optics, coaxial, and DC power cabling.
  • Setting up network servers, switches, routers, transport systems, battery backup units, and GPS installations.
  • Planning, installing, testing, commissioning, and decommissioning of battery distribution feeder bays, DC cabling, fuse panels, and power rectifiers.
  • Basic commissioning of equipment from manufacturers such as Ciena, Nokia, Ribbon, and Fujitsu. Conducting tests for new circuits in transport operations networks, including Fiber Channel, RFC, and BERT, as well as OTDR and fiber characterization testing.
  • Executing live maintenance tasks on existing equipment during off-peak hours.
  • Overseeing infrastructure installations in data centers, including cabinets, relay bays, structural modifications, cable trays, and fiber raceways.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant field experience.
  • Strong mechanical skills, with proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment (such as fiber splicers and testing gear).
  • Solid understanding of Network Layers 1 through 4 and their application in various telecommunications environments.
  • Familiarity with ancillary equipment used in telecom installations, including cables, connectors, and other necessary materials.
  • Ability to adapt and manage multiple tasks across different locations.
  • Willingness to travel as needed, sometimes with short notice.
  • Capability to interpret telecommunications blueprints, schematics, and specifications, ensuring proper equipment installation according to client designs.
  • Experience with DAS and security systems installation is advantageous.
  • Engaging with on-site customer personnel regarding job-specific tasks.

Work Environment:

  • Standard working hours may vary, including shifts from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • Flexibility to work both day and night shifts as required.
  • Job sites may be located in various regions.
  • All necessary COVID-19 safety equipment will be provided, with protocols in place to maintain safety on job sites.
