About the Opportunity

The Clinical Psychologist (PhD) is a key member of the Senior's Health Care Program within the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care portfolio of Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. Psychologists play a crucial role in planning, delivering, and evaluating services, as well as educating and supervising students. Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health offers a CPA-accredited pre-doctoral internship program in Clinical Psychology.

The primary focus of the service is to address the psychosocial needs of veterans and residents living at long-term care facilities, as well as providing support to their significant others. The successful candidate will be required to provide one-on-one assessment and intervention, assist with the development of interdisciplinary care plans, and provide consultation to other members of the healthcare team and other healthcare providers.

The Psychologist may be required to provide services throughout the Rehabilitation and Supportive Care Services portfolio.

About You

We are seeking a highly qualified individual with the following qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from a recognized, accredited program in Clinical Psychology with a strong clinical health psychology background and experience working with elderly populations.
  • A one-year accredited clinical pre-doctoral internship is required.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology (NSBEP) is required.
  • Familiarity with clinical health psychology assessment and intervention is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with dementia and other diagnoses (medical, psychological) leading to placement in long-term care is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in formulating diagnoses and implementing treatment plans.
  • Self-directed in their practice with an ability to work independently and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team while dealing with challenging clinical situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in clinical research and program evaluation would be an asset.
  • Experience in clinical supervision of psychology trainees would be an asset.
  • Experience with training program development and evaluation would be an asset.
  • Competencies in other languages would be an asset, with French being preferred.

Hours
  • Long assignment, Part-time (50%) position; 37.5 hours bi-weekly.
  • Approximately a 12-month assignment.
Compensation and Incentives

$62.74 Hourly
