About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Genomics Technologist I to join our team at IWK Health Centre. As a key member of our diagnostic services team, you will play a critical role in providing lab services for diagnostic purposes to support clinical care, as well as academic and research needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform PCR (including RT-PCR and fluorescent PCR) and sequencing, MLPA, RAD, Microarray, and NGS analysis
  • Operate and maintain common laboratory equipment/instruments, including gel electrophoresis
  • Problem-solve at a basic, operational level using an analytical approach
  • Cytogenetic specimen set up, tissue culture, and harvest
  • Ensure QA/QC procedures and documentation are completed in accordance with established operational policies and protocols
  • Perform duties in compliance with safety guidelines and legislation pertaining to healthcare
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in, or graduate of, a recognized Clinical Genetics Technology program
  • Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and/or Microarray techniques is preferred
  • Valid Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technology (NSCMLT) license or eligibility is required
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as effective problem-solving, organizational, time management, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a collaborative team environment
  • Candidates must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to technical expertise and professional development
