About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Care Aide to join our team at Century Group. As a Care Aide, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support to our residents, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care to residents, including assistance with bathing, toileting, skin care, hair care, nail care, dressing, and other activities of daily living.
  • Set and serve meals, and clear tables in the dining area during resident meal periods.
  • Assist residents to and from the dining area in accordance with scheduled meal times, ensuring they receive adequate nutrition according to individual care plans.
  • Change bed linen and resident clothing as necessary, and replenish towels and linens for residents.
  • Assist with social and activity programs, including daily exercise and accompanying residents on excursions, ensuring safe return of wandering residents.
  • Clean and perform light housekeeping duties to ensure residents' areas, supply, and storage areas are kept clean.
  • Familiarize yourself with fire and emergency procedures.
  • Respond promptly to residents' calls and requests for assistance.
  • Use good body mechanics and proper techniques to lift and transfer residents, promoting safety and comfort.
  • Observe and report any changes in residents' functional and cognitive behavior, physical state, or physical condition to the nurse on duty.
  • Assist with admissions, discharges, and transfers of residents according to facility policies and procedures.
  • Promote and assist residents to participate in social, spiritual, and recreational activities.
  • Ensure nursing equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Report unsafe or faulty equipment to the designated supervisor.
  • Ensure proper security procedures are followed in the handling and storage of confidential material.
  • Attend staff in-service and continuing education programs, and approved work-related conferences and seminars.
  • Serve on committees and attend meetings as required.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary care planning when requested.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of and comply with all facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Residential Care Aide Certificate from a reputable or accredited school required.
  • Minimum 2 years of residential care home experience.
  • Must be registered with the BC Care Aide Registry (proof required).
  • Must have Food Safe Certificate.
  • Basic First Aid considered an asset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate in English effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Physically and mentally able to carry out the duties of the position under minimum supervision.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
