Position Summary
The Senior Service Engineer plays a crucial role in providing technical expertise for the integration and troubleshooting of OSI's navigational systems. This position involves both in-house and fieldwork, where the engineer will assemble, test, install, and maintain our advanced navigational products for clients worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively within a team environment, demonstrating a professional demeanor.
- Install and commission navigation systems at various client locations, both domestically and internationally.
- Identify and resolve hardware and software issues, including network and integration challenges.
- Support Systems Engineering and Software Testing teams in creating and executing system test environments for product development.
- Assist in the design and delivery of technical training for clients regarding system installation and maintenance.
- Occasionally manage team tasks and activities related to service engineering.
- Provide technical support through customer helpdesk channels.
- Engage with OEMs to address technical issues related to sensor setup and configuration.
- Offer engineering support to internal teams for resolving technical challenges.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with service protocols.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards in all documentation processes.
- Conduct necessary testing for products, maintaining comprehensive records in company databases.
- Review and mark discrepancies in technical drawings for correction.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering to create or update as-built documentation.
- Utilize software and firmware tools for diagnostics and configuration of navigation systems.
- Evaluate software and firmware tools for potential enhancements to service capabilities.
- Ensure all tools and materials required for tasks are in optimal condition.
- Adhere to all relevant employment, environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the Service Supervisor and Supportability Manager.
Qualifications
- Education: A degree in Engineering or a related discipline, or a diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
- Experience: At least 7 years of engineering experience, preferably within the military sector; experience in delivering complex support solutions to government or military clients is advantageous.
- Skills: A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in a service engineering role, ideally in marine electronics; familiarity with troubleshooting computer systems, radar, and electronic sensors is beneficial. Strong knowledge of electronic systems and Windows operating systems is essential, along with a working understanding of system networks and software scripting. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills are required, along with attention to detail and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. A solid understanding of communication and data transfer standards is crucial. Previous experience in training internal and customer technicians is a plus.
- Other: Willingness to travel (valid passport required) and a commitment to continuous learning of new procedures and techniques; must meet security clearance requirements as applicable and be prepared to work additional hours when necessary.
