Calgary, Alberta, Canada CBC McKesson Specialty Prescription Services (B.C.) Corporation Full time

Job Overview:

The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the processes related to the preparation of both non-hazardous and hazardous sterile medications, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements such as NAPRA and Provincial Pharmacy Standards. This position demands a deep understanding of aseptic practices, familiarity with pharmaceutical compounding regulations, and the capability to mentor and guide a team within a sterile setting. The Pharmacy Operations Manager will also play a crucial role in providing national consultation and support across various locations, as well as developing national Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Key Responsibilities:

Validate the technical components of prescriptions according to the guidelines established by the Provincial Regulatory authority. Execute technical tasks related to sterile compounding, including the collection and sterilization of materials, preparation of sterile compounds in a controlled environment, and verification/packaging of the final product. Ensure a safe and hygienic workspace by adhering to current standard operating procedures, legal regulations, and environmental monitoring. Conduct routine cleaning of the controlled environment and primary engineering controls in line with established SOPs. Prepare and maintain all necessary documentation, including cleaning logs, equipment logs, and inventory records, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Diligently complete all documentation related to material processing. Ensure that supplies are properly assembled, sterilized, and transferred to the controlled environment. Develop national SOPs and provide training for compounding teams nationwide. Monitor inventory levels and pricing of compounding supplies. Comply with all relevant guidelines, including established SOPs and applicable regulatory standards. Engage in training opportunities to stay updated with current guidelines and standards. Collaborate closely with management and coordinate with other therapeutic areas regarding the production of compounded sterile preparations. Review and ensure that deviation and quality assurance reports related to the controlled environment and personnel are properly documented. Supervise the training and compliance of staff, ensuring that assessment programs are effectively implemented. Implement safety measures to protect personnel during sterile preparation processes. Develop, review, and update manufacturing and batching records for all compounded sterile preparations. Recognize scientific literature that aids in determining stability and establishing the beyond-use date (BUD) for each sterile preparation. Ensure that facilities and equipment used for compounding sterile preparations meet necessary standards and are maintained according to manufacturer specifications. Oversee the environmental monitoring program. Manage all aspects of Master Formulation and Risk Assessments. Participate in audits and ensure timely completion of required actions. Manage and report on financials and inventory related to aseptic compounding. Oversee vendor qualifications. Utilize and continuously assess scheduling processes that align with customer service demands, patient safety needs, contractual obligations, operational standards, and equitable staff workload distribution. Act as a point of escalation for patient support programs and provider solutions workflows as necessary. Provide regular feedback to senior management regarding quality, operational, technical, and process-related issues impacting programs, teams, or individuals, allocating resources as needed to ensure effective departmental service delivery. Identify and report any staff non-compliance with scheduling policies, attendance issues, or other workforce management concerns to management regularly. Undertake additional duties or projects in other pharmacy areas as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must hold a valid Pharmacist license in good standing. A minimum of 3 years of experience in hospital, retail, or specialty pharmacy environments. Comprehensive knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding techniques and sterile compounding guidelines for hazardous, non-hazardous, and high-risk sterile preparations. Familiarity with NAPRA/USP 797 standards is essential.

Key Competencies:

Previous experience in aseptic compounding is advantageous. Knowledge of Kroll pharmacy software is a plus. Ability to work independently in an aseptic environment, with strong computer skills in a Windows environment using Outlook, Excel, and Word. Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail. Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and handle multiple deadlines. This role requires a high level of precision and strict adherence to established procedures and policies. Capability to operate in a controlled and sterile environment while strictly following safety protocols. Previous leadership experience in a similar capacity is beneficial. Strong communication skills with team members and external stakeholders.

We offer a competitive compensation package, which is influenced by various factors including performance, experience, skills, equity, regular market evaluations, and geographical considerations. In addition to base salary, other forms of compensation, such as annual bonuses or long-term incentive opportunities, may be available.

Base Pay Range for this position:
